Karen's 50th chocoholic birthday cake

My sister, Karen hit the big 50 this weekend and to celebrate I made a chocolate fudge cake. It was filled with rich chocolate butter icing and mixed with bits of flake. I drizzled lashings of caramel sauce over the top and the sides of the cake and finally, added some tasteful gold leaf. The fudge cake was lovely and moist and the flake-filled butter icing was a good choice and one I shall do again!

Happy Stir up Sunday!

Today is Stir Up Sunday. The last Sunday before Advent.  I made my xmas puddings today, after soaking the fruit is brandy overnight. They are now steaming away in the slow cooker for several hours. This process makes them very moist and full of flavour. Stir-up Sunday dates back to Victorian times, when cooks prepared the Christmas pudding by stirring the mixture and adding silver coins as good luck token!
